Music Premiere: Carole Sylvan Releases Something Goin On

International R&B and soul recording star Carole Sylvan introduces her new EP, Something Goin’ On, a four-track collection of captivating music.

Talking about her music, Carole shares, “My talent is a gift, a blessing from the Creator. Like all gifts from the Almighty, they are meant to be shared and passed on. If one person enjoys what I’m doing, then I feel I have accomplished something.”

A classically trained pop/jazz singer, vocal arranger, songwriter, and educator, opened for James Brown at Yankee Stadium when she was 16. Carole attended the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and Julliard School of Music. Her classical performances include the role of Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro, Adele in Der Fledermaus, and Bess in Porgy and Bess at Brooklyn College Opera.

During her junior year in college, she went on the road with a show band for 44 weeks. Carole started writing songs with the Fatback band and performed lead vocals on the band’s first hit song “Money,” which became their first gold record.  She also won the Ed Sullivan award for outstanding artists.

Carole’s song, “Just Doin’ What We Love,” hit Billboard’s Top Ten, followed by dance hits such as “Come Go With Me” and “Caught Up with Angels of Love.”

She has performed all over the world and recorded with C&C Music Factory, Change, Aaron Neville, Peabo Bryson, Pet Shop Boys, Simply Red, Toni Braxton, Rupaul, Eddie Murphy, Lionel Richie, Ben E King, James Ingram, Melba Moore, Musique, Change, Dan Aykroyd, The Weather Girls, Brandy, Gloria Lynn, Diane Schuur, Natalie Cole, Jennifer Holiday, Charlie Karp, and Patti LaBelle.

She performed vocals on U2’s Rattle and Hum as well as other movie soundtracks and commercials. In 2021, Carole released a 10-song album Love, that debuted at #9 on Relix.

In addition, Carole is a teaching artist and artist in residence for Young Audiences New York. She teaches Broadway, Pop, and Jazz singing as well as Glee Club and Musical Theater.

The EP begins with “Savin’ Up For Your Love,” opening on a funky, soul rhythm topped by Carole’s seductive voice, oozing passion, and delicious timbres. Bright horns and a dazzling guitar infuse the tune with layers of swanky tones.

“Something Goin’ One” features a braying brass intro, followed by a smooth, upbeat rhythm as Carole’s quixotic vocals give the lyrics warm, soulful textures. Glowing harmonies inject the song with radiant depth and dimension.

“Show Me” slows things down a bit, rolling out on a graceful piano backed by a trickling organ. Carole’s rich, velvety vocals imbue the lyrics with tender textures, showcasing the sweet melodicism of her deluxe voice.

The final track, a dazzling version of Sly and the Family Stone’s “You Can Make It if You Try” travels on a funked-out beat, while blatting horns infuse the tune with tasty accents. Intoxicating harmonies emphasize Carole’s vibrant, deluxe vocals. A grand drum solo sets the song apart, adding percussive flair.

Carole Sylvan has it going on! With Something Goin’ On, she parades her vocal range, from soft and tender to luscious rasping tones.
